Valentine’s Day Fruit Wands!

As it continues to rain with no sign of the sun at all today, I decided to create a healthy snack with a Valentine’s Day twist now that it’s love-month!

One thing anyone who knows me well will tell you is the best thing I can make for dinner is a reservation. I don’t enjoy cooking, I’m not good at it & I would live off of Lipton Baby Noodle Soup if it didn’t make 30-year-old me so bloated. BUT, I can be very creative with snacks and desserts.

As Kev & I are also in full “shredding for the wedding” season, we’re trying to be more conscious of what we’re eating. This included a serious conversation how we cannot gift each other those to-die-for Reese’s in the shape of hearts or anything in that V-Day aisle that makes your eyes grow wide with excitement. Mainly because they all come in a large bags and we have no self control if they are in the apartment, ha! So this year I thought outside the box and created these cute Valentine’s Day Fruit Wands.

I ordered wooden skewers and heart shaped cookie cutters and purchased fruit. We used watermelon, grapes, pineapple and strawberries. Of course this can be altered to your fruit preference but these are our favorites!

I started with slicing the pineapple and watermelon and used the heart cookie-cutter to cut out hearts:

Next, I cut the tops off of the strawberries to make them look like hearts themselves:

After all the fruit was in it’s respectable shape, I placed them all on a plate to begin adding onto the skewers:

I then slid each piece of fruit onto the skewer and TA-DA! The cutest V-Day treat is complete!

This would also be a cute activity to do with kids! Now, when I say this, I say it lightly since I don’t have kids of my own. For all I know this could be a nightmare for moms. Too sticky? Kids with a pointy skewer and sharp cookie cutters, is this girl crazy!? Just an idea 🙂 Let me know if any of you try this!
